It was impossible to write this blog without telling you about my biggest crush of all the restaurants I tried this summer 2021. This favourite is none other than “le P’tit Cageot”, a Michelin Guide restaurant in 2021! It is part of the restaurants called bistronomy. This term is the contraction between a bistro cuisine and a gastronomic cuisine. The idea of this concept is to make quality cuisine accessible to everyone and that’s a good thing.
It was my best friend who introduced me to it, she goes there regularly. We were strolling through the streets of old Antibes when we suddenly came across this very discreet alley, rue du Dr. Rostan, which I wouldn’t have even noticed if she hadn’t taken me there.
Le P’tit Cageot
A few metres further on, we came across the P’tit Cageot, she had nothing but good things to say about it, her praise made me want to try it… Now! On a whim, we head for the waiter. It’s 6pm. She warns me that it might be complicated to get a place the same day, that she has never succeeded and that it was always necessary to book 2/3 days before. This makes me want to get a table right away!
The waiter makes a face to find us a place the same evening. There are only 30 seats. I admit that we try to force him by using a softer tone of voice, by laughing a little with him, by making little jokes… It would be a shame to refuse a table for two young women, sparkling and sunny, don’t you think?
He looks at his diary. I feel like this is taking forever…. He gives us a table at 7pm at the end of the row on one condition: we have to leave by 8pm. BINGO! “No problem for us”, we are ecstatic as ever, especially me! The idea of trying out a new restaurant that is full every night delights me.
The Menu of the P’tit Cageot
I analysed the menu carefully. It is short, only one page on the front. That’s a good sign 🙂 The food is homemade with local and fresh products from the market. The prices are relatively affordable. Between 25 and 35 euros per dish.
The surprising touch is that it offers a mystery dish. Curious as I am, I wanted to try it.
My friend opted for the poultry, I for the mystery dish, and so I’m already too eager to know.
The Mystery Dish
My mystery dish arrived, it was a pink duck breast with figs and crunchy vegetables on the side. Visually, I am amazed lol, I don’t even want to tell you about the aroma that emanates from it…
From the first bite, I am already conquered. It’s just orgasmic. I don’t say another word. I savour each mouthful in full consciousness. My God, what madness! It’s been such a long time since I’ve felt this sensation. It’s just happiness.
Time for dessert
After this dish worthy of a Michelin guide restaurant, it was obvious that the dessert would come to the table.
We opted for this scoop of raspberry ice cream delicately placed on its macaroon and wrapped in its raspberry coulis. Here again, it is a pure marvel. It’s silence at the table!
This concludes my account of the discovery of this restaurant. You will have understood, this place was my biggest crush of the summer. I highly recommend this great restaurant which gave me a mouthful. Make a reservation now!
And don’t hesitate to find on my website also, my TOP 10 series 1 of the best restaurants in Nice. The one in Antibes will arrive soon. In the meantime, book your table at P’tit Cageot with your eyes closed.
