July 2023: not-to-be-missed events in Nice and the French Riviera

festival nice côte d'azur

Summer has finally arrived in Nice and the French Riviera. And as far as the programme is concerned, you’re clearly not going to be bored: sporting, cultural and musical activities, festivals… You’re in for a treat. For my part, I’ve identified a list of 5 events that might interest you throughout July and August.

1. Open-air cinema at CAP3000 from 5 July to 23 August

Like every summer, open-air cinema is making a comeback. Several towns are offering this event… At the same time, who doesn’t sometimes want to languish in the early evening with a glass of ice cream in front of a good film and in the open air with their feet almost in the water? If you fancy it, head to the CAP3000 shopping centre every Wednesday opposite the Colombus café, where 200 deckchairs will be set out in front of a projection screen. There will be 8 screenings this summer, and you can find the full programme at this link. Tickets are free, but we strongly recommend that you reserve your place. You can also order snacks HERE

2. Juan Les Pins Jazz Festival from 10 to 21 July

Juan les Pins is THE seaside resort par excellence from June to August on the Côte d’Azur. With its sandy beaches, translucent blue sea and incredible views over the hills of Théoule, Juan has nothing to envy. Added to this, the town offers a superb jazz festival in a sublime setting where a plethora of world-famous artists have performed. To name but a few: the iconic Ray Charles and Miles Davis. The first edition took place in the 60s, and since then the Juan Les Pins Jazz Festival has become a not-to-be-missed event every summer. Prices vary depending on where you sit: 90€ for the carré d’or, between 20 and 40€ for free seating You can find the full programme here

3. Nice Jazz Festival from 18 to 21 July

We’re keeping up the momentum, jazz is on a roll on the Côte d’Azur! After Juan les pins, it’s Nice’s turn to present its jazz festival, but over four days only. Four exceptional days of music, with 24 artists performing on two stages right in the heart of Nice: Massena and the Théâtre de la Verdure. The best-known artists will include Tom Jones, M, Omah Lay and Herbie Hancock, to name but a few. Prices vary according to your status: full price: €45 student – senior – unemployed: €32 youth: €32 children: €20 You can find the full programme

4. Festival d’Arts Pyrotechniques in Cannes from 14 to 24 July

Another not-to-be-missed event on the Côte d’Azur. This time it’s the Bay of Cannes, which hosts one of the most prestigious pyrotechnic art festivals in the world every summer. Spread over six evenings in July and August, this festival is in fact an international competition where, this year, 5 countries will have the honour of showcasing all their creativity through a breathtaking fireworks display perfectly orchestrated to the most famous film scores. This extraordinary festival welcomes around 100,000 people every summer, standing or sitting in front of the seafront to experience magical memories. There are no tickets, and the festival is free. You can find the full programme here

5. Beach Sport Festival from 28 June to 23 July

We’re leaving the music for a moment to talk about a month-long sporting event in a very festive atmosphere! After a successful first edition in front of CAP3000, it’s back again for 2023, same place and almost the same programme. For its second edition, several sports will be highlighted, including wrestling, footvolley, tennis and rugby, as well as beach handball, which is new this year. The finals of the French beach volleyball championship will also be on show. Added to this, music is never too far away, with two musical shows on offer in front of 2,500 people: the first with Christophe Willem on 4 July and the second with Michael Jones on 18 July. All proceeds go to the AFM téléthon (French Muscular Dystrophy Association). The sporting event is free of charge, while the musical performances cost around €25/30 You can find the full programme and tickets for the shows at
