if you are planning to come to Nice for a weekend this summer and you don’t know what to pack, then this article is for you!
I can already see you preparing your suitcases and filling them with mini shorts, dresses, t-shirts, earrings… etc etc. So STOP, we stop everything! Ok, it’s practically sunny all summer here, in fact, I don’t think I’ve seen a single drop of rain at this time of year on the French Riviera. But know one thing, a very important thing that too few people underestimate: the sun doesn’t bring only good things!
So below you will find a checklist of 10 must-have accessories to have with you during your weekend in Nice this summer. I decided to create this checklist in order to warn you of the sun’s harmful effects, but also and above all so that you can have a pleasant stay without disappointment.
1. Sunscreen
It can NEVER be repeated enough, but sun cream is inevitable to protect your skin from the sun. After nine years in the south, I have seen in recent years the ravages that UV rays can cause on the skin (depigmentation of the skin, sun allergy, black spots, sunburn, fragility of the skin …). For my part, I use a tinted sun cream with a maximum index of 50 from Avène. And yes, we don’t joke about the sun here!
2. Sunglasses
To protect your eyes from the sun, get a good pair of sunglasses with anti-UV glasses. Because the sun is very strong here in summer, this is a detail not to be underestimated. Take care of them by cleaning them regularly to avoid damaging the material. Of course, if it combines protection and style, it’s even better!
3. A hat or cap
Glasses are not enough, and neither is sun cream. Adding a hat, cap or bobble hat is essential to protect the skin on your face. Indeed, this part of our body is known to be the most sensitive since the epidermal layer is very thin. UV rays can therefore attack it and make it more fragile, hence the importance of protecting this part of the face.
4. A mister
Not everyone thinks about it, but this accessory is essential, especially in very hot weather. We’ve experienced a few heat spikes in recent years and I have to admit that this misting device has soothed me more than once. I personally opt for an Avene thermal water spray which I leave in the fridge for several hours. I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to use the Avene Thermal Water Mister or the Avene Thermal Water Mister, but I’m sure it’s a good idea to use the Avene Thermal Water Mister to keep my skin fresh.
5. A bottle of water
Of course, we can’t repeat it enough! In summer, temperatures in Nice can rise to 40°. Although we have the sea nearby, this does not prevent us from having to drink at least 2 litres a day to stay hydrated. This will avoid many problems, especially the risk of sunstroke! DRINK!
6. A (waterproof) camera
Whether you’re a local or a tourist on the move, no one is unaffected by the beauty of the Côte d’Azur’s landscapes. Having a camera (on your phone or a pro) will allow you to immortalize every corner of the region. You’ll leave with some great souvenir photos to hang on your fridge.
Think also about waterproof cameras, really useful if you want to take a selfie with your friends underwater. The photos taken underwater are all the more original and crazy and then, it changes a little not?
7. A wireless phone charger
During your weekend in Nice, you will most certainly be on the move and spend your days either at the beach, or walking along the seafront on the French Riviera, or hiking with a view of the sea, or in the perched villages of the south. You’ll go from spot to spot, usually in your car, with your phone as a GPS, and you’ll be shooting at every spot, and your battery will run down without you even realising it. To remedy this situation, a wireless phone charger will be very useful.
8. A swimming costume
There’s no shortage of water activities in Nice. You won’t be able to resist a paddle or jetski ride! And even if you don’t plan to do any water activities, you may be tempted to jump into the water or simply sunbathe. So always take a swimming costume and a change of underwear with you.
9. A book or kindle
If you want to spend your days at the beach in lazy mode without any pressure, there’s nothing better than a small book to read in paperback or kindle format. For my part, I like inspiring books that touch on personal development and spirituality. I was thinking in particular of Miracle Morning, which helped me to set up a real morning routine in Nice that I’ve been following for 4 years now.
10. A pair of jellyfish or aquashoes
As a reminder, the beaches in Nice are pebbles, not sand. How many times have I seen people suffer martyrdom on their way to the sea or to the surface? If your feet are VERY sensitive, then invest in a pair of jellyfish or aquashoes, I assure you that your days at the sea will be much more pleasant and that you will leave with a good image of the pebble beaches during your weekend in Nice 🙂
