The Alpes Maritimes is the ideal region for seaside walks. Indeed, its location in the south-east gives it an idyllic weather and pleasant temperatures all year round. Walking by the sea on the Côte d’Azur is therefore extremely pleasant all year round. Moreover, if you like walking and discovering breathtaking natural landscapes, you won’t be disappointed here. This is probably one of the best reasons to live near the sea.
Here is a selection of seaside walks on the Côte d’Azur to do with friends, family or even alone. This selection is delimited between Cannes and Menton and is not exhaustive.
1. Tour of Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat
A trail that needs no introduction! A great classic of the region, it is still appreciated by the inhabitants to enjoy a sunny day. Only 20 minutes from Nice, the coastal path of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat plunges you into a luxuriant nature far from the turbulence of the city. This walk, which covers almost the entire Saint Jean peninsula, is punctuated by creeks, natural pools and points. It is one of the ideal spots for snorkelling on the French Riviera
- Departure: Passable beach
- Distance: 7km
- Duration: 2 hours
- Level: easy
2. Tour of the Cap de Saint-Martin
This path, which is located between Monaco and Menton, is known for housing some of the most beautiful villas of the time, notably the Villa de Cyrnos, del Mare and E-1027. But above all, one finds the famous “cabanon” in plank created by Charles Jeanneret who is also nicknamed “Le Corbusier”.
From the start of the walk, you can admire the sublime Plage de la Buse from above and then contemplate the incredible natural landscapes and overflowing vegetation along the way. As soon as you reach Cap Martin, you can admire the superb relief of Menton and Italy.
- Departure: Roquebrune Cap-Martin train station
- Distance: 9km
- Duration: 3 hours
- Level: easy
3. Tour of the Cap d’Antibes
The Cap d’Antibes is mostly known for its billionaires’ villas and its architectural masterpieces. We can note among these masterpieces the Château de la Croé & the famous villa Eilen Roc. In addition to these exceptional treasures, there is an incredible natural landscape and preserved vegetation all along the way. Some creeks with turquoise water come to sublimate this magnificent path. I am thinking in particular of this famous beach with large pebbles “the bay of the billionaires”.
- Departure: the beach of La Garoupe
- Distance: 4,8km
- Duration: 3 hours
- Level: easy
4. Tour of the Cap de Nice
Located a few kilometres from the port of Nice, the Cap de Nice walk allows you to get away from the city’s hustle and bustle in a few minutes. This path is a dead end, so you have to take a steep staircase (perfect for building up your buttocks!) to reach the avenue du cap de Nice which is at the roadside. To find the rest of the path, you just have to walk 300 meters and turn right towards Villefranche-sur-Mer.
The landscape is just as sublime as the other coastal paths. The colour of the water is an enchanting turquoise blue. The walk is a rocky path, very well laid out and therefore not particularly difficult,
- Start: the Félix Rainaux garden
- Distance: 8,8km
- Duration: 3 hours 25 minutes
- Level: medium
5. Cap d’Ail Pathway
This superb walk links three “star” beaches: Marquet beach to Mala beach, passing by Pointe des Douaniers beach. The path is very well laid out and winds its way over large boulders to the Pointe des Douaniers. This point is located a little before the halfway point of the trail. Here you will find the pretty restaurant Le Cabanon at Cap d’Ail. When you arrive near the Mala, you can contemplate one of the most beautiful palaces in the region, the Eden Palace. This palace has since been converted into a luxury residence.
- Departure: Marquet beach
- Distance: 5km
- Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
- Level: easy
And you, which walk have you chosen?
