If you follow me at all, you’ll know that I have a soft spot for small independent cafés, those that smell of simplicity, kindness and… freshly ground coffee. Well, today I’m going to tell you about a place I discovered last year in 2024 that has stolen my heart: Selah Atelier. My new freelance life allows me to explore a good number of coffee shops in Nice where you can work with your computer. Although I now spend 3/4 of my time in the coworking space at Club Metropolitan in Cap 3000, I like to go back to the city centre and sit in one of the many coffee shops, and the Selah Atelier café is without doubt one of my favourites.
But compared with the other coffee shops, it’s further away from the centre, in the Libération district just above the station.
Selah Atelier or the flower café
As soon as you open the door, you realise that this is no ordinary coffee shop. Here, you enter another world where aesthetics play an important role. For people like me who are sensitive to places, sensations and nature, you will be particularly touched. Selah Atelier is first and foremost a place that specialises in floral art and the composition of dried flowers in pastel shades that bring a certain serenity – it’s not for nothing that it’s called the café des fleurs. They also offer a number of art and food workshops. They also have a cosy, warm place to enjoy a good cup of coffee with a good pastry.
A place where time slows down
What I particularly like is the soft, soothing atmosphere and that little je-ne-sais-quoi that makes you want to come back again and again – I love their playlist, which reminds me so much of London coffee shops! The decor is simple but warm, with natural materials, light wood, plants and soft light coming through the large windows. There’s a real sense of calm about the place. It’s a bit like entering a cocoon where time slows down.
Drinks and cakes made with love
As for the menu, the drinks are delicious!
Selah Atelier doesn’t do things by halves. The coffee is excellent (with a special mention for their flat white – one of the best I’ve tasted in Nice, honestly), and they also offer plant-based alternatives, oat milk, soya milk, almond milk… and even matcha or chai latte in perfect proportions. They also innovate their menu with new drinks. Selah Atelier is one of the best coffee shops in Nice for great speciality coffee. On top of that, their cakes are to die for!
A place to live, not just a café
What I love about Selah, beyond the coffee and cakes (although that’s a big part of it), is the energy of the place. It’s a place that attracts people who are gentle, creative and calm. I’ve bumped into freelancers in the middle of a laptop session, students deep in their books, friends chatting and even mums with their babies. It really is an open place, where you feel welcome.
In short, Selah Atelier is…
More than a coffee shop: it’s a place to recharge your batteries. Whether you need a break between two meetings, a place to work in peace and quiet, or simply to enjoy a good coffee in a soothing atmosphere, you’ll find what you’re looking for here.
