A few months ago, I discovered a new and very original concept in the heart of Nice, 200 metres from Place Garibaldi. This concept is none other than a perfume creation workshop, the Jumalee Parfum.
Obviously, although the region is essentially known for its seaside walks and its perched villages, it is not without reminding us that the French Riviera is the capital of perfume with the most famous of the Grasse perfumers Fragonard. This new concept proposed by Jumalee Parfum is therefore quite natural.
The idea is very simple: you compose your own perfume according to your own tastes, in a workshop that lasts 1h30, under the sharp advice of Julien, the master of olfactory creation.
The different stages of perfume creation
1. Clearly understand the different components of a perfume
A perfume is composed according to the olfactory pyramid:
- Top notes: these are the first, most volatile scents, which fade away after about 30 minutes
- The middle notes: these are the heart of the perfume and develop for up to 4 hours
- Finally, the base notes: they give depth to the composition and fix the perfume. They are diffused for many hours.
2. Smell and select the different fragrances according to your taste
This is the longest but most interesting part. Indeed, you have to smell each bottle of perfume (there are 80 in total) and you have to select several scents for each note (head, heart and bottom). Of course, Julien will be your guide to accompany you in your choices and suggest something harmonious. If you lose your sense of smell after smelling all these bottles, coffee beans are available to help you regain your olfactory sense.
For my part, I went for floral, fresh and oriental notes.
3. Filling your perfume bottle
Once you have selected the scents that best suit you, it is time to fill your 50ml or 100ml perfume bottle with a pipette. Julien intervenes again to judge how much to put in each scent. His advice is invaluable, but of course you have free will.
The perfume bottle, depending on the capacity, is black or amber in colour in order to protect the contents from light. Indeed, just like oxygen and heat, direct light is harmful for the perfume, which risks to oxidize and to “turn”.
4. Create your own brand
Once the perfume is filled to the brim, it’s time to come up with a name that suits you. You choose the inscription, the font, and the hot foil label to complete your creation. And it’s really nice to know that you have just created your own perfume from A to Z, until the birth of your “brand”. Once again, everything is well thought out down to the smallest detail!
5. Certification in the pocket!
After all this, Julien does not fail to spoil us by delivering a certificate of initiation, accompanied by a jute pouch to insert your perfume and a pencil.
He will not hesitate to give you all the advice you need after the workshop to keep the quality of the perfume as long as possible.

A unique experience in the heart of Nice
–
Made-to-measure perfumes yes… But not only!
In addition to the perfume workshop, Jumalee offers products such as scented candles made from vegetable wax, organic soaps by the cup, coloured and divinely scented. But even more original, you will find a perfume bar with which you can create your “cocktail” of perfume in 30 or 50ml.
In short, if you are a resident of Nice or a simple tourist visiting Nice, don’t hesitate to try this unique experience or to offer it to one of your loved ones, Jumalee Parfum is really a concept to try!
