Last year, I discovered a new concept 200 metres from Place Garibaldi, which is none other than Jumalee Parfum. It’s a perfume creation workshop in Nice where you will be guided and advised for 1h30 by the founder himself, Julien Bigaré, a real perfume enthusiast. You will come out richer and you will feel like a real expert in perfume creation too
In order to find out more about this good address in Nice, I went to meet Julien for a series of questions and answers so that he could tell us more about his career and about Jumalee Parfum. Here we go!
1. Can you describe Jumalee Parfum?
JB: Jumalee is a company that I created almost a year ago. It’s a workshop dedicated to the creation of custom-made perfumes. We only use essences from Grasse that are of the highest quality. There is also a very personalized accompaniment from the beginning to the end, from the choice of essences to the bottling and personalization.
2. How did you come up with the idea of creating this perfume workshop?
JB: For three years I directed the creation workshops at Molinard, the oldest perfumers in Grasse. I really saw the craze for this kind of workshop, for perfume creation. Especially since we are in an era of personalisation in which people want to create niche products in their own image. When I saw this craze, it really came to me quite quickly, I said to myself why not create my own workshops with my quality, my essences, my bottles, my accompaniment.
3. What makes your workshop different from Molinard’s?
First of all, the difference is already in the concentration of the perfume. We will have a product that will last longer on the skin and be more heady. Also, we differ in the complete customisation of the packaging… All this is what the competition, apart from Molinard, does not offer.
4. Why is the region the ideal place for a perfume creation workshop?
JB: Simply because Grasse is the world capital of perfume and is only about an hour from Nice. It is the cradle of all perfumers and raw materials.
5. What is the importance of perfume in your daily life?
Perfume represents feelings. It is something personal. We all have an olfactory memory which is the most important memory of the human body. There are many scents that, when we smell them, will bring back many memories. It creates a special atmosphere for each of us.
6. What is the first feedback on Jumalee?
JB: The feedback is more than excellent! You have to know that I opened in the middle of a covid, in partial confinement, so the beginning was very difficult. However, I quickly got back on track and in almost six months, I have already created 200 workshops. I’m very proud of it, we have only good feedback, 5 stars 🙂
7. In a few words, can you describe your background?
I have a rather atypical background! Basically, I am a graphic designer, draughtsman, illustrator, I studied and worked in this field for over six years. Then I worked in the building trade before becoming a mixologist barman. I soon became an expert in raw materials and distillation. I became really passionate about blending and everything to do with raw material extractions. This is one of the reasons why I got into perfumery.
8. A word for people who don’t know Jumalee?
JB: It’s mainly for people who can’t find their own perfume, their own fragance, thanks to a choice of essences that they can identify with. The aim is to have their personality in the perfume, something that resembles them.
